About Riverside County, CA


Incorporated in 1893, Riverside County is located in Southern California. The City of Riverside is the county seat. With an area of 7,303 square miles, it is the fourth largest county in the state by area. It is also the fourth most populous county in California. The county has 12 Indian reservations, which is second most in the US. The county has desert landscape in its central and eastern portions (the Mojave Desert and Colorado Desert) and features a Mediterranean climate in the western region.


Lake Perris offers a range of recreational activities during summer. California Citrus State Historic Park – an open-air museum – preserves cultural landscape of California's citrus industry. Joshua Tree National Park is a popular destination among campers, hikers, climbers, and birders. Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert features wildlife and plant species of the region.

The iconic Mission Inn is renowned for a blend of architectural styles. The Western Science Center exhibits Native American artifacts and Ice Age fossils. Orange Empire Railway Museum chronicles Southern California's railroad history. Moreover, the Coachella Valley region of the county includes resort cities of Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, and Rancho Mirage.



How to Reach Riverside County

Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is served mostly by seasonal flights.

Amtrak's Southwest Chief route passes through the county.

Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 traverse through Riverside County.
